I live in Denmark. I can attempt to live “danishly ” but that is all it is: an attempt. A version of myself that I still am. Different. The fact that I can hygge is the only reason why I am home in Denmark (and in most places): Hygge is universal love. (Yeah!)

Awareness of universal love shows us…worlds that had seemed threateningly alien. They reveal themselves to be essentially much like our own, expanding the range of places in which we feel at home. This means we can let go our suspicion of people with names like Søren and Viggo, because they had never drank coconut water fresh out of the coconut (The things that I do/did). Not only do I believe in universal human nature. I know. I saw myself today in a picture of an old man with mustache and blue laughing eyes, a picture hanging in a second hand shop. (His name was probably Søren. A stranger. An old stranger. His mouth never said the words: do you have WIFI?).

I realise I am there, in that picture, and I also in Mimbo Jimbo. I am Mimbo Jimbo, a blue elephant that will raise his hand to universal love and hygge with his funky warm eyes.

This is him:

Aurelio is a huge fan, and I am Aurelio’s fan, so what does that make me? Buddies. We are buddies.

Mimbo Jimbo is part of our lives. I say his name when we eat, when we play, when we sleep. I have dreams with him. We have a set of four books that  he reads many times. And again. Front to back. Back to front. Under the table. In my lap. He hides the books. Finds them. Throws them. Im crawling under the table to get them. The books are his friends. And while reading  those stories compulsively, I had a realisation: Mimbo Jimbo lives in the context of universal, has universal struggles, universal fun, universal love for his friends. He rides quirky cars and draws abstract drawings, washing his hands when he is done. I am him. I am home like this, celebrating every day my contributions, little or small, doing my best. Celebrating my friends, always big.

Mimbo Jimbo and his friend Mumbo Jumbo rock life in simple ways, hygge, kakao, and rock & roll.

If you were Mimbo Jimbo, you would want to smile because life is good, only worried about doing a good painting and doing it right.

You would find solutions to take your friends with you.

and you would be drinking Kakao(hot chocolate) with your friend Mumbo Jumbo at the end of the day.

It feels to me like the world is a place to be trusted. Cars can come out of boxes that you can DIY- do yourself. Why not?

A world where friends will go out of their way, (or roll over your paintings) to help you out.

Close our eyes and watch out for Mimbo Jimbo. Listen to his whisper. Just as Dr. Seuss might whisper to your ear“you’ll move mountains”-to take you places, Mimbo Jimbo will make you smile and whisper to your ear- “ruuuuum..ruuuum“. He would say: converse, and go places with a little help from your friends. Drink your kakao now (hot chocolate), and after you have finished building your car, go rruuuuuuuum.

The story might end with words like: Tak for i dag, Mumbo Jumbo. (This is what many danes say at the end of the day: Thanks for today. It means your contribution to the day, whatever you did, is good). Tomorrow will be another day.

For today I will hope that someone, somewhere, anywhere, translates Mimbo Jimbo’s (Jakob Martin Strid’s) books to spanish, english, italian, portuguese, mandarin, all languages, so kids grow up with a blue elephant whisperer: trust, love, respect, friendship, and all genius great ideas/adventures of everyday things. Hygge. Boom. I will hope the end of your day hits you wonderful with a hot chocolate and a good good friend. (Sighs*).

I have not being paid by Jacob Martin Strid (or any book store or publisher)  to review his books. In fact, I would be thrilled if he contacted me. ;-).
